2021 Free Methodist Church Planting Institute
We are excited to announce a new upcoming Church Planting Institute in partnership with the Southern Michigan and Central Pennsylvania Conferences of the Free Methodist Church! This five-month training opportunity will give planters in these conferences the chance to receive missiologically-rich church planting training from Asbury’s expert faculty.
For the first time, this training is going to be offered in a virtual-hybrid format, combining the best of online learning and synchronous virtual sessions with the instructors. This new model will enable participants the greatest amount of flexibility with the least amount of travel and expenses. Each month, participants will be guided through three week-long online units before gathering together for a day of virtual sessions with the instructor on week four.
The Free Methodist Church Planting Institute will begin on January 9th, 2021 with a brief Zoom orientation and will conclude on June 5th, 2021 with the final virtual session. You can download the full weekly schedule breakdown here: 2021 Free Methodist CPI Event Brief
All Church Planting Institutes cost $1,000 for registration. However, due to a generous donor, we are able to offer a substantial scholarship to Free Methodist registrants from select conferences.
Institute Overview:
Module 1: Exploring the Call of Missional Leaders
Designed to help participants and their teams understand and articulate the character, calling and competency of being missional leaders, we dive into what it means to embody holistic leadership. Beginning with a personal assessment, we help you learn how to integrate these three essential elements as you discover how to best live out your calling.
Module 2: Introduction to New Contextual Churches
Beginning with foundational theories and practices of planting new contextual churches, we explore the various models and options for church multiplication in order to help leaders and their teams identify the best practices and approaches for their unique contexts and gifts.
Module 3: Understanding Context
Recognizing the importance of evaluating cultural surroundings, we will provide practical tools for understanding people and their values, interests, and practices as expressed in their specific contexts.
Module 4: Developing and Multiplying Disciples
Knowing the significance of empowering others for ministry, we will offer biblical and practical foundations for developing and multiplying disciples by mobilizing those who surround you. It is during this session that we explore the dynamics of developing an effective ministry team.
Module 5: Engaging the World
With a focus on building faithful communities of God’s Kingdom, we will study evangelism by exploring the dynamic relationship between God’s Word and God’s World. Through this lens, we will help leaders and their teams recognize how they can build authentic congregations that embody the message of the Gospel.
